Big Brothers Big Sisters PDX: "My Match"
Role: Editor // Videographer // Director

For the 2018 Big Hero Gala, Big Brothers Big Sisters PDX partnered with a team local of designers, photographers, and videographers to create an inside look at the mentor relationship.

The project follows two Portland area matches over a period of six months, documenting a series of shared activities, and showcasing an intimate view into the little moments of the match relationship that make for a big impact in the long-term success of children.

“My Match” follows the story of Devin - a teenager from Hillsboro - and his mentors Mike and Sandi as they enter the seventh year of their match relationship.  We also meet Imani and Amber - a newly formed match - as they explore different experiences and discover the depth of meaning to their long-term commitment together. Shown in-tandem, these stories offer unique perspectives of trust, friendship, and fun – the building blocks a great match is founded on.

Told through moving and still image, candid personal interviews, and a selection of shared events, My Match takes a long-form approach to holding its audience, highlighting the substantial, and often unseen richness felt at the intersection of commitment, vulnerability, and hope. It presents a quality of emotion revealed most-truly to those who have taken the step to mentor, volunteering themselves to someone little, and an experience that is big.

Following the Big Hero Gala on January 27th, My Match begins a scheduled rotation throughout Portland area business and community spaces in Spring 2018. For schedule information or to submit an exhibition request, please contact Cynthia Thompson at Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest.
